Child & Youth

Lake Sammamish Therapy serves children (age 4+) and youth/teens with a range of behavioral and emotional challenges. Parents are strongly encouraged to be active participants in counseling for our young clients so children can practice their learned skills at home.

How We Help

Young people communicate in ways that differ from adults, and often lack the words or skills needed to help them manage difficult feelings, thoughts, or situations. When a child is lonely, they may ask their parent to play or become destructive because they seek attention and do not know how to tell you that they feel sad. They can feel overwhelmed by their emotions, confused and resistant to the influence of their guardians.

Young people may isolate themselves, argue, or become increasingly avoidant of family during times of hardship. Negative communication patterns can emerge, and teens may feel misunderstood and trapped in an unending cycle of stress and despair. Anxiety, depression, and disruptive behaviors can feel in control of the day-to-day, with joy, hope, and open communication seemingly far away. But this does not have to be the case.

Lake Sammamish Therapy understands child behavior and development and can help your child learn new strategies to approach difficult feelings and behaviors. Your child or teen will be introduced to communication tools they can utilize at home, insight into their behavior patterns, and problem solving techniques so they may better navigate challenging situations.

Our Approach

Emotions, challenging thoughts, and difficult behaviors impact all areas of life: love, parenting, communication, friendship, school, and work.

Approaching these areas of our life with courage and emotional agility can enhance our experiences and pave the way towards fulfilling relationships, more loving connections, and the strength to advocate for ourselves. Confronting the challenging situations that influence our behaviors and infiltrate our thoughts requires practice, consistency, and courage.

Lake Sammamish Therapy can provide you and your loved ones with the tools needed to reach your emotional, behaviors, personal, and professional goals and to experience a life of choice and opportunity.

Inviting our thoughts and feelings into awareness allows us to learn from them rather than be driven by them.
